John Scharffenberger

John Scharffenberger has spent his career in the world of food, forests, and farming. He received a BA in Biogeography at UC Berkeley specializing in agricultural history. After graduation, he began to develop vineyards on several ranches in Northern California. He started a “champagne quality” winery in Anderson Valley and later created the first artisanal chocolate company in the US, Scharffen Berger Chocolate.

He serves on the board of the Save the Redwoods League and is involved in many community activities near his home in Anderson Valley, California. While working on ranch and farming projects, he developed a love of trees and forests and continues to work on conservation forestry endeavors

John works with small food producers, Hodo Soy, Farmhouse Culture, CoCo Terra, California Caviar Company, Redwood Green Cannabis, and a new venture to provide housing for Anderson Valley farmworkers.
